A series of three podcasts leads through Rob’s career and major educational developments eg early years assessment and, in particular, explores the buzz phrase ‘evidence based practice’ which, in part, contributed to the setting up of the Education Endowment Foundation, the General Teaching Council and informed John Hattie’s research into great teaching.  One of the biggest challenges identified is communications in supporting research outcomes to be connected and applied successfully in the classroom.  Rob’s latest research is focusing on comparing low attaining Y9 students in maths with pupils working at greater depth in maths in Y5 and reaching a conclusion that, contrary to other analyses, it is not gaps in learning that contribute to poor conceptualisation but simply that pupils are left ‘behind’.  He concludes in the podcast by saying that all teachers have an entitlement to high quality professional learning and the opportunity to ‘get better’ and improve their expertise and skills.
