Chantry students visited by Rt Hon Amber Rudd
Students at Chantry Academy were recently visited by the Rt Hon Amber Rudd, a unique opportunity made available to them through the Speakers for Schools programme.
Amber Rudd, a former politician who served as Home Secretary in addition to various other roles within parliament, delivered an inspiring talk about careers and aspirations.
Amber Rudd spoke to students about her career journey, highlighting the skills, resilience, and determination needed to succeed in leadership and public service roles.
The students were highly engaged throughout the talk and took part in an interactive Q&A session, asking thoughtful and insightful questions.
The session also helped students to gain a clearer understanding of the wide range of careers available within parliament and the pathways that can lead to these roles, as well as encouraging students to be ambitious about their futures more broadly.
Members of the academy’s Student Commission and Student Parliament found the visit particularly beneficial, gaining valuable insight into how parliament operates and how young people can develop the skills needed to make a positive contribution in the future.
"I learnt about the ambition and motivation needed to take a political career route."
Phoebe, head girl at Chantry Academy
“This was a brilliant, new opportunity for our students and the visit forms part of our wider commitment to providing high-quality careers education, meaningful encounters with employers, and opportunities that inspire students to achieve their full potential.
“Students found the visit from Rt Hon Amber Rudd inspiring, and it is brilliant to hear them speaking ambitiously about their futures.”
Jeremy Rowe, interim executive headteacher at Chantry Academy
