Apprenticeships at ALT
Apprenticeships are an integral part of how we grow people and build careers within our trust.
We use them to bring new talent into our schools and to help existing staff develop real, job-ready skills. Apprentices join our teams as paid employees, receive on-the-job coaching and dedicated study time, and work towards an industry-recognised qualification. Many move into permanent roles or use their new skills to take the next step in their careers.
What is an apprenticeship and who are they for?
An apprenticeship combines paid employment with structured learning and assessment. You learn while you work, with a mix of practical experience, mentoring and off-the-job training that leads to a formal qualification.
They suit a wide range of people, including school leavers starting out in education or support roles, career changers looking for a practical route into the education sector, or current staff who want to develop new skills and gain a qualification.
Apprentices are an important part of our teams and often bring innovation and fresh ideas. To demonstrate the value we place on them, we pay our apprentices above the national minimum wage.
We recruit apprentices for a variety of roles across our Trust, including Teaching Assistant, IT Technician and Recruitment Administrator. Apprentices are recruited specifically to learn the role, so no prior experience is required - just enthusiasm, a willingness to learn, and a commitment to developing new skills.
Our apprentice vacancies are advertised alongside our other roles on our dedicated platform:
Apprenticeships as professional development
Apprenticeships aren’t just for new starters - they’re also a fantastic way for existing staff to continue growing. We support a wide range of apprenticeships at every career level, across many roles within the Trust
With dedicated time for learning “off-the-job”, apprenticeships give colleagues the chance to build new knowledge, skills and behaviours that help them progress in their careers, while continuing to contribute to the success of their school or team.
Recent apprenticeship examples include:
- Teaching Assistant
- Business Administrator
- Professional Coach
- Facilities Management Supervisor
