Train to Teach

Active Teacher Training serves as the training arm of Active Learning Trust, delivering teacher training programmes in partnership with Ambition Institute. With decades of experience in teacher training, we work closely with lead schools to deliver a quality programme that supports trainees in building strong habits and effective practices, alongside high-quality service and support to help individuals reach their potential as a qualified teacher.

Teaching is a vibrant, fast-paced and exciting career and Active Teacher Training is committed to providing trainees with the best possible start to a fulfilling, life-changing career.

Our teacher training programme resulted in a 100% employment rate for trainees in recent years.

Postgraduate teaching bursaries and scholarships are available in some subjects.

What would teacher training look like for you at ALT?

Our friendly, experienced team will work with you from the outset of your journey towards qualified teacher status (QTS), ensuring you receive the best advice, support and guidance throughout your training.

Your programme will include multiple placements, with taught content drawn from research as well as independent study. We believe that engaging with a broad range of contrasting school contexts will challenge you to adapt your practice, equipping you with the skills required for a lifelong career in teaching.

Alongside school placements and training sessions - which are supported by experienced mentors, teachers, and leaders who understand what it takes to help educators continually grow - we provide access to a tailored digital library of professional development resources, available anytime and anywhere. In partnership with the university, we also offer PGCE qualifications alongside, or in addition to, QTS.

A great teacher changes the future every day. Especially for children who have had a tough start in life, a teacher can be the critical factor in their success. Our Teacher Training sets you on the path to becoming an excellent teacher, one who will inspire the next generation to succeed.

Our Teacher Training prioritises your relationship with, and impact on, the pupils you teach and it allows you to do most of your training in one school. You can put your academic learning into practice in a structured, step-by-step way, with your mentor and peers, before taking it live in the classroom. Your dedicated mentor will be an experienced teacher who works in your school. They will provide one-to-one guidance and support throughout your training. This will allow you to develop and refine your teaching practice with an expert, trained in the latest evidence-based learning. Our one-school training approach also gives you the opportunity to build relationships with teachers, staff, and the wider school community.
