Neale-Wade hosts International Women’s Day event

Neale-Wade Academy has recently hosted over 100 students and guests for an inspirational International Women’s Day event.

On Friday 6th March, the secondary school welcomed guests from a wide range of organisations and professions. The event was organised by volunteer Karen Beckwith, supported by 2020 Productions and Rev Ruth Clay (March Churches Team Ministry) and sponsored by March Rotary Club, March Lions and March and District Nursing Association

Principal Graham Horn opened the event with a speech acknowledging recent female achievements across sport, entertainment, science and the environment.

Everyone present was urged to “celebrate, reflect and commit” and speakers included representatives from HM Courts and Tribunals Service and Aerotron Composites, along with a freelance performing artist and jewellery maker.

Students had the opportunity to network with guests and take part in a “Flip Panel” where four students asked questions of the adults in the audience. Questions explored what a good CV should look like, and which route is best for particular industries - apprenticeships or degrees.

Catering was provided by local company Glam Eats.

“We are delighted to have been able to hold another successful IWD event at Neale-Wade, and to see such great dedication from everyone who attended. It’s always brilliant to receive such encouraging feedback. Thank you to Neale-Wade for hosting and to all the organisations who have helped and funded this opportunity.”

“Our annual International Women’s Day event is always an important one on our school calendar. It’s brilliant to see our students learning from and being inspired by female role models and we are very grateful to them all for generously sharing their time and experiences with us. Thank you to everyone involved - events like these make a huge impact on our students’ futures.”
