Tree planting at Cromwell Community College
Parents, pupils and staff in the Primary Phase outdoor space at Cromwell Community College in Chatteris have been busy planting out 105 saplings.
The 105 trees were given to the school by the Woodland Trust and were planted on the Primary phase field and in the Forest School area. In the future they will grow to provide shade for the children, as well as habitats for birds, insects and other wildlife.
The school was delighted to welcome parents who volunteered their time to come in and help with the planting process.
The project to plant 105 trees ties in with Cromwell’s commitment to the Outdoor Learning and Play (OPAL) scheme, a programme to improve the quality of play areas in schools.
“The children thoroughly enjoyed getting involved in the planting process and will be able to watch the saplings grow over the coming years.
We are hugely grateful to the Woodland Trust for their kindness and would also like to thank all the parents who gave their time to come and help us plant these trees.”
Amber Dickinson, the teacher who applied to the Woodland Trust for the trees
“The trees will not only improve our outdoor learning spaces but will also help our pupils understand the importance of protecting nature. The trees will grow, providing much needed creative play and climbing spaces for our children.”
Amy Boyden, the school’s OPAL play lead
“We are so pleased to have all these trees planted in our school grounds and would like to thank Mrs Dickinson and Mrs Boyden for leading on this project.
At Cromwell, we strive to offer a warm community atmosphere and it was wonderful to see this reflected in the way so many parents came in to support us with this project.”
