Pupils bury time capsule at Highfield Littleport Academy

Students at Highfield Littleport Academy designed and buried a time capsule filled with their predictions, dreams and ideas for what school life might look like in the year 2045.

From robot teachers to eco-friendly campuses and universal inclusion, their contributions were both imaginative and deeply thoughtful.

The students helped bury the time capsule in what will be the school’s new wildflower meadow, where it will remain sealed until 2045.

The students at Highfield Littleport embarked on this creative journey into the future to mark the fact that a new extension at the school is nearly complete.

The contractors, RG Carter, are only steps away from completing the extension which is purpose-built to welcome 50 additional special needs students at the school.

A special ceremony was attended by staff, students and representatives from RG Carter to bury the time capsule.

“The students’ ideas for the time capsules were brilliant - from solar-powered school buses to holographic teachers.

It’s clear they’re not just thinking about technology, but about kindness, independence, and what it means to belong. Our school learning values in a nutshell!

This project shows how powerfully our students can shape the future. This extension is more than just a building - it’s a launchpad for futures imagined by the very students it serves. It's not just bricks and mortar that make this expansion special - it’s the vision behind it.”
Yvonne Skillern, Headteacher

The extension project is funded by Cambridgeshire County Council and reinforces the council’s commitment to providing inclusive education across the county.

The new facility features adaptive classrooms, a state-of-the-art sensory room and cutting-edge learning tools designed to support a wide range of educational needs.
